Yelapa, Mexico; The Hidden Paradise

Yelapa Mexico Massage SchoolThe region of Jalisco in Mexico is famous for beautiful beaches, ancient architecture, and authentic native culture. Puerto Vallarta crowns the northern coastline of this naturally stunning area and is one of the world’s favorite vacation stops.

If you’re seeking a less-crowded getaway that still offers first-class accommodations, Yelapa is the destination for you. A short boat trip from Puerto Vallarta will take you to this hidden gem in the Bahia de Banderas Bay.

General Information

Yelapa is a small village roughly 50 miles south of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The area enjoys a temperate climate year-round, which makes it a great place to visit in all seasons. It is situated on the western coast of Mexico, where the best beaches in the world can be found.

It is possible to drive to Yelapa. It is faster, however, to travel by boat. Whichever method you choose, don’t worry about renting a vehicle. In fact, motorized vehicles are mostly prohibited in this intimate space. Several companies offer boat and over-the-road shuttles to major towns surrounding this tiny village.

Yelapa has only recently gained reliable access to electricity. Even though it now offers all the modern amenities like phones and internet, you can still use this secluded spot to take a break from the constant hum of electronic “comforts”. Ditch your electronics and reconnect with the beauty of nature.

Things to Do

For those staying at hotels and resorts in the region, or those just passing through to other locations, Yelapa offers a variety of fun activities to fill a day trip.

  • A variety of locally-owned restaurants let you taste the traditional cuisine of the region. Many of them are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Need a sweet treat while on the go? The famous pie ladies that roam the beach make their food fresh daily from locally sourced ingredients.
  • Experience the vibrant culture of music and art. Yelapa is known to harbor an array of successful musicians and artists.
  • Rent a horse for the day and take a leisurely stroll along the shore.
  • Local artisans offer kitchenware and other high-quality, handmade novelties you can buy as gifts for your loved ones or yourself.
  • When you’re done on the beach, follow the road through the village to reach their 150-foot natural waterfall.
  • Raicilla is a drink brewed only in this region of the world. Similar to tequila and mezcal, it is made from the leaves of the agave plant. Many establishments in the village offer this traditional drink that pre-dates written history.

Relaxation, shopping, and culinary delights are only a few of the activities a visitor to Yelapa can enjoy.

Accommodations

For those who want to stay, the village has a few options. Locals often rent rooms to visitors for extremely reasonable prices. Or check out one of the 3 major-brand hotels that dot the village. Whether you’re looking to stay for a night, a week, or several months, you are sure to find affordable and comfortable lodgings for your stay.

Keep in mind that services may vary. If you are on a budget, ask your host about meals, laundry, and other services you may need during your stay. It is unlikely that you will be able to book a room online before you leave, so have a backup plan.

Yelapa takes caring for their environment seriously. Recycling is a part of village culture. Respect the locals and their land during your visit. Separation centers are available to help you sort your refuse for easier processing.

Don’t get stuck with the average beach vacation. Try Yelapa, the hidden paradise.
